Sweet Pea - Work in Progress

I started working on another bird painting tonight (in between baking ginger cookies... mmmm.... ). Its not another chickadee (though I do have a couple of those on the go too) but rather an English Robin amongst some sweet peas. I love sweet peas and I hope I can capture their delicate nature.

A Little Bit of Sunshine - Bird #7

There is something that I find relaxing in painting chickadees. Perhaps its the fact that I have nearly painted 100 of them over the last couple years and that I have a good feel for capturing their expressions. I've finished bird 7 out of 100 tonight and have already starting drawing #8 and #9 (to be completed sometime in the near future).

A Little Bit of Sunshine - Work in Progress

I started work on a new chickadee painting (will be bird #7) today and thought I would add in a flower from one of my own reference photos (this is a type of daisy... I think). Its coming along quickly and I hope to finish it in the next day or two. I've fallen a bit behind in the bird challenge, but still have a long time to catch up.

Bright Eye - Bird #6

This little guy was a fun quick painting to do today... and he seems to have the 'first thing in the morning' bright eye look about him (hence the painting title). It was also great to finish a painting in one setting, something that I haven't done for quite some time now. I have a couple more bird paintings on the go and I think I just may sneak in a couple of floral paints to.

Mossy Rest (Finished) - Bird #5

Bird number five in my 100 Birds in One Year challenge is now officially completed (and available through my Etsy Store). Chickadees have always been my favourite bird to paint... though I am trying to keep them from being my only bird that I paint. That said.... on to determine who the sixth bird in the series will be.

Mossy Rest - A Little More Done

Just a little more to go on this guy and he'll be finished, but that will have to wait until another night. This painting is coming along a lot quicker than some of my recent paintings. I think the cats and I are developing an understanding of when I paint then don't jump on my desk (they just hide behind my easel) and when they paw at my desk I give them attention. That, or I just bribe them with tuna....

Mossy Rest - Work in Progress

I made a quick stop at my favourite local art store today and picked up a couple of Daniel Smith watercolour paints (serpentine green, sap green, and buff titanium)to play with. I probably have more than enough paints to keep me busy for a long time........ but who can resist new colours! I've used the new colours in the mossy bits (lots of work let there) and so far I love the yellowish greens. My undersea green (Daniel Smith) makes a perfect shadowing green (with a touch of burnt sienna in the deepest shadows).

Rose - Finished Painting

Finished and now back to the birds. I have a couple of birds on the go and have my eyes on another floral painting in the future. Enjoy!
